This will be the final Sausalilto Currents for the year; and a brief one at that, just to let you know of a couple of important items as the year comes to a close.
REMEMBER: City Hall Offices will be closed from December 24, 2012 through January 1, 2013. However, the LIBRARY will only be closed on December 23, 24, 25 and December 30, 31 and January 1.
THINGS OF NOTE FROM CITY HALL
WE'LL DRIVE YOU HOME on New Year's Eve
Again this year, the City of Sausalito is offering a free and safe ride to our residents to and from any location within the City limits of Sausalito on New Year's Eve. What a safe and sane solution for all you party goers!
On New Year's Eve, there are many celebrations occurring in Sausalito at local restaurants, bars and residences. Two large passenger vans will be on-call throughout the night to give any Sausalito resident a ride to and from a New Year's celebration within the City of Sausalito. When residents are ready to go to their party or night out on the town, simply call 415-299-4431 on New Year's Eve and one of the vans will respond to take you there. When residents are ready to leave their party location for home, simply call 415-299-4431 again and one of the vans will respond to take you home safely.
Van services will run from 7:00 pm on December 31 to 2:30 am on January 1.
Community Meeting on the Draft Traffic Study at the MLK Properties – Lycee Francais School
Due to a scheduling conflict, the community meeting planned for December 13th had to be postponed – and now we have a new date and time! As part of the process of planning for the initiation of Lycée Français La Pérouse operations at MLK next year, the City retained Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. to prepare a Traffic, Parking and Circulation Plan. Kimley-Horn’s work includes a study of the existing operations at the site and an analysis of changes expected as a result of the departure of The Marin School and the beginning of Lycée Français La Pérouse occupancy. The City is sharing the draft of Kimley-Horn’s report on our website under the news heading “Community Meeting” and now plans to hold the community meeting on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 5 until 6 PM at MLK (tentatively the Gym) to allow residents and tenants at MLK an opportunity to offer their comments on the draft. Caledonia Street Lights
As readers will recall from the November 30 issue, a number of the decorative Marbelite streetlights on Caledonia Street were burned out and could not be repaired because bulbs were no longer available. There are 21 lights on the 5,000 volt series circuit (originally installed in the 1940’s). On an urgent basis, the City has retained Siemens ITS (formerly Republic ITS) the maintenance contractor for the streetlights to design a replacement circuit (a “rewiring” project) to restore service as soon as possible. This project will ultimately aid in the rehabilitation and retrofitting of all of the City’s decorative fixtures with energy efficient bulbs or emitters. The City was fortunate to engage another electrical contractor, DC Electric (of Cotati) that was able to locate parts and bulbs to restore light in all 21 of the series circuit fixtures early this week. The circuit renovation design project has also successfully started and the City is cautiously optimistic that the necessary electrical improvements can be accommodated in fiscal 2013-14 as a capital project. To the extent that it will qualify as an energy savings project, the City will work with PG&E and the California Energy Commission to develop grant funding for all or part of the work. Major kudos to DC Electric and its senior management team lead by Don Caramagno. Have a safe and Happy Holiday season!
We look forward to re-connecting after the new year.
