HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Why Do We Need A New System?

Sausalito’s old parking hardware was beyond its expected lifespan. An un-gated system will be more user friendly since payment can be accepted at any pay station and both the hardware and software are more reliable than what we presently have.

How Does The New System Work?

Each parking space in the public lots is assigned a space number. A sensor is embedded in each space, sensing when a vehicle pulls into the space. The sensor wirelessly informs the pay station that a vehicle has pulled in, and the software then allows 5 minutes for the customer to pre-pay for parking.

SmartCards

Residents, commuters, merchants and permit holders will eventually be issued SmartCards in place of prox cards and permits (currently not expected for 90 days).  Until then, hang-tags are being issued to identify these groups (except D permit holders) - SEE BELOW.

How Will The Parking Enforcement Officers Know That I’ve Paid?

All Officers will be equipped with handheld devices that communicate with the new MSMs through a wireless connection. The equipment communicates in real-time so the officer can be more efficient in their duties. Since the system keeps a detailed record of every parking session, it can alert Officers when someone entered and when they have exceeded their paid time - or failed to pay altogether.

What Are The Hours Of The Lots?

Below are the hours and rates for the lots.  You MUST display your hang-tag or pay for parking during these hours:

LOT 1:   7am—10pm; $3.00 per hour

LOT 2:   7am—10pm; $3.00 per hour

LOT 3:   7am—10pm; $2.00 per hour

LOT 4:   7am—6pm; $1.00 per hour

COMMUTERS AND MERCHANTS

Commuters, as well as downtown merchants and their employees, can still park downtown for their reduced rate of $4.00 per day.  But they must continue to use their old prox card AND display a Hang-Tag until the SmartCards are issued.

Officers will receive a daily report of what prox cards have been used to park, checking those numbers against the numbers on the Hang-Tags. Any unpaid vehicles will receive a citation.  So continue to use your prox card on the way in AND the way out—and display your Hang-Tag!  And don’t forget to reload your card when needed!

IF YOU HAVEN’T RECEIVED A HANG-TAG, SEE BELOW.

 RESIDENTS

Residents may continue to park for free for up to 3 consecutive hours every day between the hours of 8am and 6pm. YOUR HANG-TAG MUST BE DISPLAYED to receive free parking or you will be cited. If you are staying longer than 3 hours, you may buy more time at any pay station by entering your space number and then paying by coin or credit/debit card.  YOU WILL NO LONGER BE BILLED QUARTERLY FOR OVERAGES.

After 6pm, residents receive unlimited free parking until 8am the following morning.  YOUR HANG-TAG MUST BE DISPLAYED to receive free parking or you will be cited.

IF YOU HAVEN’T RECEIVED A HANG-TAG, SEE BELOW.
