The Sausalito Police Department's Marine Patrol Unit was created in 2007 in response to the unusual challenges and demands of a large and diverse boating community in the waters surrounding the City of Sausalito. The Marine Patrol Unit's resources and capabilities are dedicated to enforcing local, state, and federal maritime laws, rendering assistance in emergency and distress situations, providing security on the waterways, and maintaining the safest possible boating environment. The Marine Patrol Unit routinely trains and conducts law enforcement operations with other agencies such as the United States Coast Guard, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, San Rafael Police Department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the California Department of Fish and Game.

The Sausalito Police Department’s Marine Patrol Unit consists of eight (8) members of the department who utilize two different types of vessels to conduct operations. The patrol vessel’s designators are Marine One and Marine Two. Marine One is a 26’ dual engine Safeboat. Marine Two is a 23’ Munson twin hulled vessel. Marine One and Marine Two have been involved in several rescue operations, arrests, and other maritime safety/enforcement operations. The officers that staff Marine One and Marine Two do so as a collateral duty to their normal patrol/investigative assignments.
