Sidewalk at 2200 Block of Bridgeway Closed Due to Landslide
On Sunday, January 22, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Department of Public Works was alerted to a landslide on the southbound side of the 2200 block of Bridgeway, covering the sidewalk and a portion of one of the southbound lanes. The slide occurred on the uphill side of Bridgeway, two hundred yards south of the Nevada Street intersection.
Working into the night, Public Works crews removed approximately twenty-five cubic yards of mud and vegetation to clear the road and sidewalk.
On Monday, a geotechnical engineering consultant studied the hillside and concluded that there is a risk of further erosion and movement. In response, the City has placed tarps over the slide area. Concrete barriers have been installed on the sidewalk to prevent mud from entering the roadway or bike lane, in the event of further movement.
With the barriers in place, the sidewalk on southbound Bridgeway between Olive Street and Nevada Street will be closed to pedestrian traffic for the foreseeable future. Pedestrians are advised to cross to the northbound side of Bridgeway at Nevada Street or Spring Street, where there are crosswalks and traffic signals.
